Online videos make you easier to find. Google shows results with videos, images, news, maps etc. If you have a video on your website, you will rank higher in Google’s results, especially if your competition doesn’t use online videos. Research has shown that Google favours sites that have embedded videos, especially if those videos are YouTube, seeing as YouTube is one of Google’s companies. It would be beneficial to keep this in mind.
Websites with videos show up in 70% of the top 100 search results listings on Google. 64-85% of the viewers are more likely to buy a product or a service after watching a video.
Furthermore, videos are much easier to share. Research shows that people are more likely to share a video than text. They also are more likely to click on posts which contain a video than on posts with no visual. Research of Comscore shows that 187 million people in the US watched 48 billion online content videos in July 2013. The average American spent even more than 22 hours watching online videos. Marketing Land says that tweets with videos get 28% more retweets. These statistics alone show the sheer power of online video.
Videos keep visitors for longer. Comescore‘s research shows that visitors who view videos stay two minutes longer that average visitors and they are also 64% more likely to purchase. The longer visitors stay on your site, the more likely they are to use your products or services. Visitors prefer watching videos instead of reading a long explanation about a product or service. It’s not that strange, if you think about it. Forbes believes it’s all about psychology. Videos use the four areas that humans are programmed to pay attention to; faces, voices, body language and movement. Videos are also much easier to make sense of and understand.
“YOU CAN BUY ATTENTION (ADVERTISING). YOU CAN BEG FOR ATTENTION FROM THE MEDIA (PR). YOU CAN BUG PEOPLE ONE AT A TIME TO GET ATTENTION (SALES). OR YOU CAN EARN ATTENTION BY CREATING SOMETHING INTERESTING AND VALUABLE AND THEN PUBLISHING IT ONLINE FOR FREE.” -DAVID MEERMAN SCOTT
Videos also have the power to appeal to one’s emotions. In these days of information overload, online videos help you to get more on an emotional level with your visitors. A picture says 1000 words, but a video says even more. For example, Zappos began using videos on numerous product pages. This resulted in their sales increasing between 6 and 30% for the items that they used videos for. In addition, people are more likely to trust a website with videos than one without.
A video offers you more than one way to persuade your visitors. You can say more in a video than in copy. According to Unbounce, a video that shows visitors the value of what you offer can improve your conversions by 20%. Instead of getting 2-10 seconds of time of your visitors, you get 2 minutes. So don’t hesitate.
